News: VUDU is readying Blu-ray quality downloads

September 10th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in News

Exciting news for VUDU owners if this comes true.  HD movies might be coming your way.  Though I doubt they’ll be true Blu-ray quality.  That would eat up some serious bandwidth.

From Engadget:

While rumors have been flowing hot and heavy about VUDU’s possible demise, it seems the company has other plans in mind. We’ve received word that select beta team members are now being asked to try out new downloads that are intended to rival Blu-ray quality. Dubbed HDX movies, these ultra-high-def flicks are currently being watched by folks willing to wait a number of hours (two to three) for a film to start, but there’s no guarantee that we’ll ever see this hit the masses. Sure, we totally dig the idea of BD-quality content on-demand, but we could almost scoot down to Blockbuster, rent a bona fide Blu-ray Disc, watch, and return it before a so-called HDX title even begins.

July 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in News

This is really awesome. This software streams any format of DVD, HD-DVD, or Blu-Ray rip straight to your Media Extender (Xbox 360). Of course, it does require a PC to stream the data over to the Xbox.

Try it out here: Open Media Library.

News: LG Netflix Blu-Ray Player BD300 shown

July 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in News

Well, it doesn’t play back your entire video library, but this is certainly an interesting combo device.  I expect we’ll see lots of things like this in the coming months.

Seen first on Gizmodo:

LG’s Netflix-streaming, Blu-ray 2.0 playing BD300 made its public debut tonight, and we’re impressed. The box is slim and it won’t take up more space on your shelf than any other player. An LG exec confirmed a September launch for the sub-$500 player, so check out the gallery and start lickin’ your chops.
